And a Ramsay Era Ends… and Begins
There were a few tears in a few eyes as we farewelled Phyl and Col Ramsay last weekend…. Although Col claims it was the breeze or dust from the fans.
This fairly formal pic with wardens Rob Wilson and Jen Crisp doesn’t really convey the warmth and heartfelt words that marked the end of nearly 40 years of connection of Phyl and Col with St Paul’s Manly. There are many folk who have made a deep imprint on the DNA of any community … sometimes we get to acknowledge them publicly… and sometimes they slip away quietly. Phyl and Col did us the real honour of allowing us to show our love to them, and by extension the myriads of big hearts who have built this community of faith.
Chocolate Cake and Cheers… what better way to say goodbye to Phyl and Col Ramsay as they seek new adventures over the river and in Freshwater Parish.
The house is packed, removalists ready and Rev Claye at Freshwater warned that missionaries of real religion are on their way from St Paul’s Manly as their great adventure begins.
Warden Rob Wilson gave a deeply felt speech which highlighted some of the significant ways the Ramsays have contributed to this community. Some of that is in the doing of things… the willingness to take on rostered jobs and administrative stuff, liturgical and pastoral care and many other behind the scenes things.
Jobs can and will be filled but the being… the person that is the gift to us by just being them… is what has touched many hearts. Phyl shared a few thoughts but Col being the shy retiring type he is had the folk laughing and remembering in his own inimitable style.
We send them off with a few mementos but with many prayers and memories of precious times shared.
God Bless you both today and always.
