Friends on the streets with Rosies

Last Friday evening, Fr Andrew had the privilege of visiting one of the many ways our folk at St Paul’s serve the community.

Mel and Craig Lawrence have been volunteering with Rosies Friends on the Street for a couple of years now. Once a month on a Friday evening Mel leads a team of volunteers, including Craig, serving hot drinks, some simple snacks and a huge serving of love and conversation as part of the Rosies Wynnum Outreach Team.

It’s a simple premise…. They park the fully equipped van in a regular spot and offer very practical support and care. Its not just about the cuppa… its about forming human connection and building community with folk who are struggling.

The Rosies van has become a hub of community, often joined by the Orange Sky van offering washing and drying machines and the 4 Voices van offering connection, personal and electronic, to girls and women who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing social isolation, domestic violence, homelessness and digital exclusion. The bright red, orange and purple t-shirts are a strong sign of love and compassion for people doing it tough right here in our patch. Find out more about Rosies inside.
